Ethyl phenylacetate is a colorless or nearly colorless transparent liquid with strong and sweet honey aroma. Insoluble in water, miscible with ethanol, ether, benzene and chloroform. Ethyl phenylacetate is used as a synthetic perfume to prepare various fragrances for daily use. It is used as an auxiliary agent for solvents and spices, as well as in organic synthesis, pesticides and pharmaceutical intermediates. Let's learn about its storage method, preparation method, and main uses.
Storage method
Store in a cool and ventilated warehouse. Keep away from fire and heat source. It shall be stored separately from oxidant and shall not be mixed. Provide corresponding varieties and quantities of fire-fighting equipment. The storage area shall be provided with suitable materials to contain leakage.
Preparation method
Preparation method 1
It is obtained by reflux reaction of phenylacetonitrile, ethanol and sulfuric acid. Ethyl phenylacetate can also be prepared by esterification of phenylacetic acid and ethanol under the action of sulfuric acid, with a yield of 90%. Another production method is obtained by hydrolysis and esterification of phenylacetamide. There is also phenylacetic acid method: it is obtained by esterification of phenylacetic acid and ethanol.
